Report a Claim

At MEC, our approach to claims management is built on partnership and shared expertise. Our consultative role drives optimal outcomes for both the insured and the injured worker.

Non-Catastrophic Claims

1. Review the events that require notification to Midwest Employers Casualty:

  • The total paid Loss exceeds $250,000 or the total incurred amount of Loss (paid plus reserves) exceeds 50% of your Specific Retention, whichever occurs first.
  • An injured worker misses fifty-two (52) weeks of work as a result of the injury, even if the Claim is being contested.
  • An injured worker has petitioned to be deemed, is accepted as, awarded, or found to be catastrophically or permanently and totally disabled under the benefits state’s Workers Compensation law.
  • An accident or disease exposure involving injury to two or more workers.
  • A worker is diagnosed with cancer, heart disease, lung disease, infectious disease, or other disease that is presumed to be, or found to be, compensable under the benefits state’s Workers Compensation law.

2. Complete the First Notice of Loss form (right) within 30 days following the occurrence of any of the previously stated events. 

 

Employers Liability 

 

A First Notice of Loss must be submitted within 30 days of your notice of a claim that may fall under Part Two Employers Liability of the policy.

 

Catastrophic Claims ONLY

 

Excess Reporting Guidelines 

 

Reinsurance Reporting Guidelines 

 

Midwest Employers Casualty must be notified immediately of a catastrophic claim (within 5 days) after the occurrence of any of the following:

  • Fatality 
  • Brain injury 
  • Amputation of a major extremity 
  • Spinal cord injury 
  • Crushing or massive internal injury 
  • Paralysis of any body part 
  • Partial or total loss of vision in one or both eyes 
  • Serious burn injury (burns covering more than 25 percent of the body)
